Defining Volume
- Volume is the amount of space a 3D shape takes up
- Units of volume include millimeters cubed, centimeters cubed, and meters cubed
- Volume of a cube or cuboid can be calculated by multiplying the length, width, and height together
- Larger cubes can be represented in terms of the number of smaller cubes needed to form it
- Volume of a larger cube can be calculated by counting the number of smaller cubes and multiplying by the volume of one smaller cube
- Volumes of complicated shapes can be determined by submerging them in water and measuring the increase in water level
- Archimedes developed a method to measure the volume of objects by water displacement
