Estimating Powers
- The power of a non-integer can be estimated by evaluating the powers of its nearest integers
- To estimate, find the value of the nearest integers squared and place them on a number line
- Estimate where the non-integer squared should go on the number line, closer to the lower integer
- Use the number line to estimate the value of the non-integer squared
- The estimate can be represented using the approximately equal to sign (~)
- The actual answer may vary slightly from the estimate, but the method is still effective
- This method is powerful and can be used to estimate square numbers
