  • The square root of a non-square number can be estimated by evaluating the closest perfect square roots
  • To estimate the square root of a number, find the nearest perfect square root below and above the number
  • Use a number line to estimate where the square root of the number should go
  • The estimated square root will be between the two perfect square roots on the number line
  • The estimated square root may not be exact, but it is close enough for practical purposes
  • In exams, there will be a range of acceptable answers for estimating square roots
