- A surface is a flat region without any thickness
- Surfaces can be two-dimensional or three-dimensional
- Curved surfaces are three-dimensional
- Examples of three-dimensional surfaces include cracked eggshells and ping pong ball material
- 3D shapes have length, width, and depth
- 3D shapes exist in three dimensions of space
- Labels for dimensions can be arbitrary
- 2D shapes only need two measurements to be defined
- The surface of a 3D shape is called a face
- A 2D shape only has one face, the entire flat surface
- 3D shapes can have hidden faces not visible in a 2D representation
