Factorising Single Brackets

4:55 Factorisation
Spec A1 A3 A4
  • Factorization is the opposite process to expanding brackets
  • Factorization involves finding a factor that can go in front of a bracket to create an equivalent expression
  • The highest common factor (HCF) is used in factorization
  • Factorization can be checked by expanding the bracket back out to get the original expression
  • Sometimes the HCF includes letters
  • An identity is when two expressions are always equal to each other regardless of the values of the variables
  • Example: Factorize 12t minus 4m
  • Example: Factorize 3a plus 6ab plus 9a squared
