Finding the Turning Point of a Quadratic

7:00 Quadratic Graph Calculations
Spec A11
  • The coordinates of the turning point of a quadratic can be found by completing the square
  • The turning point is found at the coordinates (a, b)
  • For a positive quadratic, the turning point is a minimum
  • For a negative quadratic, the turning point is a maximum
  • To find the turning point, rewrite the quadratic in the form of completing the square
  • Simplify the expression to get it in the correct form
  • Read out the coordinates (A, B) to find the turning point
  • State whether it is a minimum or maximum based on the sign of the quadratic
