Function Machines
- A function is a series of operations performed on an input value
- A function machine is a flow diagram used to show the operations of a function
- A function machine takes an input and performs operations on it before returning an output
- Example: input of 2, operation of 2 times 2, output of 4
- Example: input of 15, operation of times 3, output of 45, operation of plus 7, final output of 52
- Reverse engineering: given output of 30, inverse operation of minus 6, input of 36, inverse operation of times 2, input of 18
- Checking answer: input of 18, times 2 operation, output of 36, minus 6 operation, final output of 30 confirms correct answer
