Index Multiplication Rule
- When multiplying indices with the same base, add the powers together
- Example: 4 squared times 4 cubed = 4 to the power of 5
- This rule is important for exams
- Example: b to the power of 6 times b to the power of 13 = b to the power of 19
- The rule also applies to negative indices
- Example: z to the power of -12 times z to the power of 15 = z cubed
- Group numbers with the same base before applying the rule
- Example: 3 squared times 4 cubed times 3 to the power of 5 times 4 to the power of -6
- Simplify each group separately and then combine the results
