Introduction to Percentages
- A percentage is a way of writing a proportion as the number of parts per 100.
- 0% means nothing is filled, while 100% means the whole thing is filled.
- Percentages can be greater than 100 in certain situations.
- Proportions can also be written using fractions and decimals.
- Fractions represent the number of parts out of any number.
- Decimals represent the number of parts out of 10, 100, 1000, etc.
- Percentages are always the number of parts out of 100.
- Percentages are widely used because they are easily understood by most people.
- Percentages are commonly used in everyday life, such as in sales.
