Labelling Right-Angled Triangles
- A right angled triangle has one angle that is 90 degrees
- The sides of a right angled triangle can be labeled according to their relation to one of the non right angles
- The longest side of a right angled triangle is called the hypotenuse
- The hypotenuse is always opposite the right angle
- The side of the right angled triangle that is opposite the given angle is called the opposite
- The remaining side of the triangle is called the adjacent
- The adjacent side connects the vertices where the right angle and labeled angle sit
- If the other angle was chosen, the opposite and adjacent sides would swap places
- This concept is useful and will be used in math studies and exams.
