Algebra Graphs

Line with a Certain Gradient

2:54 Using and Interpreting Straight Line Graphs
Spec A9
  • The equation of a line can be found using the gradient and one point on the line
  • The equation of a line is y = mx + c, where m is the gradient and c is the y intercept
  • To find the equation, substitute the values of m, x, and y into the equation and solve for c
  • Once c is known, the equation can be written in the form y = mx + c
  • Example: Find the equation of a line with a gradient of -2 that passes through the point (5, 1)
  • Substitute the values of m, x, and y into the equation and solve for c
  • The equation of the line is y = -2x + 11
