Median

6:41 Median, Mode & Range
Spec S4
  • The median is a measure of central tendency for quantitative data
  • It is the middle value when the data is arranged in order
  • The median can be found by reordering the data and eliminating from both ends
  • The position of the median can also be calculated using the formula: position of median = (number of data values + 1) / 2
  • If the formula does not give a whole number, the median is the mean of the values directly surrounding it
  • The median can be found for both continuous and discrete data
  • The median is useful for finding a central value in a data set
  • The median can be used to calculate the final score in a dance competition, where ratings are given by judges
