Mixed & Improper Fraction Conversions
- Mixed and improper fractions can be converted to and from each other
- To convert a mixed number to an improper fraction:
- Multiply the whole number by the denominator
- Add this to the numerator
- Add the numbers in the numerator to get an improper fraction
- To convert an improper fraction to a mixed number:
- Divide the numerator by the denominator to get the number of wholes
- Find the remainder
- Rewrite as a mixed number with the wholes and the remainder in the fraction
