Parallel Vectors

2:29 Manipulating Vectors
Spec G25
  • Vectors that are scalar multiples of each other are represented as parallel lines
  • Scalar multiples are normal numbers that multiply a vector
  • Dividing a vector by a positive number creates a new vector with half the length but same direction
  • Multiplying a vector by a positive number creates a new vector with twice the length but same direction
  • Vectors that point in opposite directions are also parallel
  • Multiplying a vector by a negative number creates a new vector with same length but opposite direction
  • Scalar multiples of the same vector will be parallel to each other, traveling in either the same or opposite directions
  • Ability to sketch these vectors is necessary
