Perimeters of Compound Shapes
- Compound shapes are made up of more than one simple 2D shape
- It is useful to split up compound shapes when solving problems
- To calculate the perimeter of a compound shape, label each side and add up the lengths
- Sometimes lengths of sides are missing and need to be calculated
- Example given of how to calculate missing side length by splitting shape into simpler shapes
- Example given of calculating perimeter of compound shape
- Step 1: Calculate missing length x
- Step 2: Calculate missing length y
- Step 3: Add up lengths of each side to find total perimeter
