Right-Angled Triangles

2:15 Types of Triangle
Spec G4
  • A right angled triangle has a 90 degree angle at one of the vertices
  • The side opposite the right angle is called the hypotenuse and is always the longest side
  • The hypotenuse is important in Pythagoras Theorem and trigonometry
  • A right angled triangle can also be an isosceles triangle or a scalene triangle
  • In an isosceles triangle, the two angles that aren't the right angle are equal and the two sides that aren't the hypotenuse are equal
  • In a scalene triangle, all angles and sides are different lengths
  • A right angled triangle can never be an equilateral triangle as it requires one angle to be 90 degrees and an equilateral triangle has all angles at 60 degrees.
