  • Rounding a number to a certain number of place values is useful
  • To round to the nearest 10, 100, etc., look at the digit to the right of the column being rounded to
  • If the digit to the right is 5 or more, round upwards
  • If the digit to the right is 4 or less, round downwards
  • The exception is the number five, which is rounded up by convention
  • Example: rounding 2,354 to the nearest 10
  • Example: rounding 5,555 to the nearest 100
