Short Division
- Short division is useful for dividing a large number by a single digit
- The number being divided is called the dividend, the number being divided by is called the divisor
- The answer to a division problem is called the quotient
- Step 1: Set up the division with the dividend underneath a symbol that looks like a bus stop and the divisor on the outside
- Step 2: Write how many times the divisor goes into the first digit, with any remainder carried over to the next digit
- Step 3: Write how many times the divisor goes into the second digit, with any remainder carried over to the next digit
- Step 4: Write how many times the divisor goes into the last digit
- The remainder is the difference between the dividend and the product of the divisor and the quotient
