- A fraction can be written in different ways
- Fractions where the denominator is three times bigger than the numerator are equal to three ninths
- A fraction is simplified if the numerator and denominator can be divided by the same number
- Anything done to the numerator should also be done to the denominator
- Simplifying fractions is important
- Example: Shade 16 20ths of a shape
- Example: Work out what fraction of a shape is shaded
- Shape problems are popular in exams
- Count the number of parts in the shape to get the denominator
- Count the number of shaded parts to get the numerator
- Simplify the fraction by dividing the numerator and denominator by the same number
