Solving Linear Equations
- A linear equation involves only constants and variables with a power of one
- The left and right hand expressions of a linear equation are only equal when the variable takes on specific values
- Linear equations have the simplest form because they have one solution
- The solution to a linear equation can be found by manipulating the equation to make the variable the subject
- Linear equations can be solved graphically by plotting the left and right hand expressions and finding the intersection point
- To solve a linear equation, you can add or subtract terms to isolate the variable, and then divide to find the solution
- You can double check your solution by substituting it back into the equation
- Even if a linear equation has brackets, it is still considered linear as long as the terms involving the variable have a power of one
- To solve a linear equation with brackets, you can expand the bracket and then follow the same steps as before to isolate and solve for the variable.
