Straight Line Graphs
- Linear functions have graphs that are straight lines
- The equation for a straight line is y = mx + c
- The coefficient of x (m) represents the gradient of the line
- The constant term (c) represents the y intercept of the line
- The y intercept is the y value where the line cuts through the y axis
- The gradient tells us how steep the line is
- Gradients can be positive or negative
- Straight line graphs can also be completely horizontal or vertical
- A horizontal line has a gradient of zero and can be represented by the equation y = constant
- A vertical line has an infinite gradient and can be represented by the equation x = constant
