  • A sequence is a series of numbers that follow a particular rule
  • The nth term of a sequence can be represented by an algebraic variable, often denoted as un
  • Algebraic notation is useful for writing term to term rules in a sequence
  • Term to term rules show the relation between terms in a sequence and can be used to find the next term
  • Examples of term to term rules include adding two to each term or multiplying each term by a constant
  • Writing terms as algebraic variables is particularly useful for describing sequences that cannot be easily described otherwise
  • The Fibonacci sequence can be represented using the formula un = un-1 + un-2
  • The number of viewers in a series can be modeled using the formula VN = 5(VN-1) - VN-2
  • Substituting values into the formula allows us to calculate the values of specific terms in the sequence
