Using Formulae
- Values can be substituted into formulae in the same way as expressions
- Substituting values into formulae allows us to calculate the result
- Formulae are commonly used in real life situations
- BIDMAS rules should still be followed when using formulae
- Example: converting Celsius to Fahrenheit using the formula F = 9C/5 + 32
- Step 1: Substitute the value for C (40 degrees C) into the formula
- Step 2: Work out the value of the fraction (9 times 40 = 360, 360/5 = 72)
- Step 3: Work out the addition to get the answer (72 + 32 = 104)
- Therefore, 40 degrees Celsius corresponds to 104 degrees Fahrenheit
