Vertex Labelling Conventions

3:39 use conventional terms and notations: points, lines, vertices, edges, planes, parallel lines, perpendicular lines, right angles, polygons, regular polygons and polygons with reflection and/or rotation symmetries; use the standard conventions for labelling and referring to the sides and angles of triangles; draw diagrams from written description
Spec G1
  • Geometry uses letters to label vertices, lines, angles, and shapes
  • A and B are points, and AB is the line segment that joins them
  • The line segment can also be labeled as BA
  • An angle between two line segments AB and AC is labeled as angle BAC or angle CAB
  • The letter where the angle is located is in the middle of the three letters
  • A 2D shape is labeled by the letters representing each vertex, in the order of adjacency
  • The shape can be labeled in any order as long as the order of the letters indicates adjacency
  • There is a convention to label shapes going clockwise, but it is not necessary and won't result in marks being lost if labeled anti-clockwise.
