Chapter 8

“It ran: ‘No animal shall kill any other animal without cause.’ Somehow or other, the last two words had slipped out of the animals’ memory.” The alteration of the Seven Commandments becomes a common practice for the pigs to justify their atrocious actions against the ideals of Animalism. As such, Orwell comments upon the manipulative nature of totalitarian regimes, asserting their egotistical tendencies to fulfil their own goals rather than uphold the wellbeing of the citizens.
