Race

Othello is a Moor and is hence exotically different to the Venetian aristocracy; he especially contrasts white-skinned and pure Desdemona. This is a causes for much moral outrage (a.k.a. thinly veiled racism) from many characters in the play, predominately Brabantio and Iago, who both outwardly express their displeasure regarding the union between Othello and Desdemona.
