You will likely encounter many different prompt that revolve around the question of language in the play. These might seem difficult at first, but as we’ll see, you can easily link this idea to how Othello’s changes throughout the play, particularly as his demeanour unravels into uncontrolled and primitive emotions of rage and jealousy. Other related notions that may be interesting to look at include how other characters’ descriptions of one another either align or oppose their true nature – for example, does the pure image painted of Desdemona by her father truly reveal the strength and maturity of her character? And how does this differ from the way Othello speaks about her and to her throughout the play?
