  • Health is a state of physical and mental well-being.
  • Causes of ill health include communicable disease (can pass from one organism to another), non-communicable disease (cannot pass from one organism to another, diet, stress, and life circumstances. 
  • Different types of disease may interact. For instance, defects in the immune system may mean an individual is more likely to suffer from infectious diseases, and immune reactions caused by a pathogen can trigger allergies, such as skin rashes and asthma.
  • Severe physical ill health can lead to mental illnesses, such as depression.
