  • A represents the length of one of the parallel sides
  • B represents the length of the other parallel side
  • H represents the height, the perpendicular distance between the two parallel sides
  • The formula can be derived by comparing a trapezium to a parallelogram
  • The area of a parallelogram is equal to its base times its perpendicular height
  • The area of a trapezium is half the area of the parallelogram formed by two identical trapezia
  • An example is given to practice using the formula
