Area of a Triangle
- The area of a triangle can be found using its base and height
- The formula for the area of a triangle is: area = base * height / 2
- The height of a triangle is the distance it covers in one direction, and the base is the distance it covers in the direction perpendicular to the height
- The formula can be derived by considering right angle triangles and creating a rectangle with the same dimensions as the triangle
- The area of the rectangle is equal to the base times the height, and since the rectangle is composed of two identical triangles, the area of one triangle is half of the rectangle's area
- The formula works for any type of triangle, not just right angle triangles
- The formula can be used even when the triangle's top vertex is not directly over the base
- To find the area of a triangle, use the formula: area = 1/2 * base * height
- Example: a triangle with a base of 9 cm and a height of 8 cm has an area of 36 cm squared.
