Conditional Probability

5:33 Conditional Probability
Spec P9
  • Conditional probability is the probability of an event occurring, given that a previous event is already known to have occurred
  • The notation for a conditional probability is P(B|A), which means the probability of event B happening, given that event A has happened
  • The formula for calculating conditional probability is P(AB) / P(A)
  • Conditional probabilities can be calculated using tree diagrams or Venn diagrams
  • If two events are independent, the probability of event B given event A is the same as the probability of event B
  • The probability of both independent events A and B occurring is equal to the probability of A times the probability of B
