Converting to a Recurring Decimal
- Fractions can be converted to decimals using division
- A fraction is equal to the numerator divided by the denominator
- To convert a fraction to a decimal, divide the numerator by the denominator
- For fractions that do not divide evenly, the division will produce a repeating pattern
- To convert a fraction to a decimal, set up the division in the short division format
- Write out how many times the denominator goes into each digit, noting the remainders
- The repeating pattern in the division will continue forever
- Write the answer as a decimal using dot notation, with a dot above the repeating digit or group of digits
