Converting to Standard Form
- To convert a number to standard form, determine how far the first digit needs to move to the unit's position
- A number is in standard form if it can be written as a number between 1 and 10 multiplied by a power of 10
- When converting a large number to standard form, the power of 10 is positive and represents the number of times the digits moved to the right
- When converting a small number to standard form, the power of 10 is negative and represents the number of times the digits moved to the left
- To convert a number to standard form, identify how to move the digits to find a suitable value for A and determine the value and sign of n
- Check the conversion by multiplying A by 10 to the power of n and see if it equals the original number
