Defining Inequalities

5:14 Inequalities
Spec A3
  • An inequality is a relation between algebraic expressions that is only true for certain values of the variables
  • Inequalities can use symbols such as greater than, greater than or equal to, less than, and less than or equal to
  • Inequalities can have variables on one or both sides and can be linear or nonlinear
  • Solving an inequality involves determining the values that satisfy the inequality
  • Inequalities are different from equations because they can have an infinite number of solutions
  • Inequalities can be written using different symbols, such as swapping a greater than symbol for a less than symbol
  • Swapping the order of an inequality does not change its meaning
