Estimating Roots
- The square root of a non-square number can be estimated by evaluating the closest perfect square roots
- To estimate the square root of a number, find the nearest perfect square root below and above the number
- Use a number line to estimate where the square root of the number should go
- The estimated square root will be between the two perfect square roots on the number line
- The estimated square root may not be exact, but it is close enough for practical purposes
- In exams, there will be a range of acceptable answers for estimating square roots
