- An outcome is a possible result from a random action
- Examples of random actions and their outcomes include drawing a card, flipping a coin, rolling a die, and getting a ball from a bingo machine
- An event is when the outcome of the action fits given criteria
- Different criteria can be applied to determine if an event has occurred
- Examples of events include drawing a specific card, drawing a picture card, or rolling an even number
- A set of outcomes is exhaustive if it covers all possible outcomes from the action
- Examples of exhaustive sets of outcomes include all the cards in a pack or all the numbers in a set of bingo balls
