  • When a bracket is squared, it can be expanded using the identity: a plus b all squared equals a squared plus 2ab plus b squared.
  • The FOIL method can be used to expand double brackets.
  • When a minus sign is used instead of a plus sign, the expansion becomes: a minus b all squared equals a squared minus 2ab plus b squared.
  • The two middle terms can be collected together in both cases.
  • Examples are given to practice expanding squared brackets.
  • The expanded form of x plus 5 all squared is x squared plus 10x plus 25.
  • The expanded form of three x minus two all squared is 9x squared minus 12x plus 4.
