Fraction as an Operator
- Fractions can be used as operators in mathematical operations
- Finding the fraction of a quantity is the same as multiplying the fraction by the quantity
- Common factors between the denominator of the fraction and the given quantity can be cancelled
- The fraction and given quantity can be multiplied together
- The result can be simplified to get the answer
- Word problems involving fractions and operations are common
- The pound sign may be temporarily omitted in calculations, but should be added back in at the end
- Money off in a sale can be found by multiplying the fraction by the original price
- The money off can be subtracted from the original price to find the new price
