Algebra Graphs

Line Between Two Points

3:16 Plot graphs of equations that correspond to straight-line graphs in the coordinate plane; use the form y = mx + c to identify parallel lines; find the equation of the line through two given points, or through one point with a given gradient; use the form y = mx + c to identify perpendicular lines
Spec A9
  • The equation of a line can be found from knowing two points on the line
  • The gradient of a line is equal to (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1)
  • The general equation of a straight line is y = mx + c
  • To find the equation of a line, use the coordinates of the two points in the formula
  • Use the gradient and one coordinate to calculate the y-intercept (c)
  • Substitute the values of m and c to get the equation of the line
