  • Long addition is used to add numbers with multiple digits
  • Step 1: Identify the value of each digit in both numbers
  • Step 2: Write out the calculation in column format
  • Step 3: Add up the units column
  • Step 4: Add up the tens column
  • Step 5: Add up the hundreds column to get the final answer
  • Carry over any numbers that exceed 9 in a column to the next column
  • Example 1: 23 + 11 = 34
  • Example 2: 112 + 30 = 142
  • Example 3: 179 + 153 = 332
