Percentage Increase
- To increase a number by a percentage, add the percentage of the number
- A percentage is a proportion of a number written as parts out of a hundred
- To calculate a percentage increase, convert the percentage to a fraction or decimal and multiply it by the original number
- Another method for calculating a percentage increase is to add the percentage to 100% and apply it to the original number
- In an example, increasing 420 by 40% results in a new value of 558
- In another example, a classic car's value increased by 15% over 40 years, resulting in a new value of 17,250 pounds
