  • Graph axes can be extended to include negative numbers
  • The graph divides into four quadrants separated by axes
  • Upper right quadrant contains coordinates with positive x and positive y values
  • Upper left quadrant contains coordinates with negative x and positive y values
  • Bottom left quadrant contains coordinates with negative x and negative y values
  • Bottom right quadrant contains coordinates with positive x and negative y values
  • To plot a point with negative coordinates, move left on the x axis and down on the y axis
  • To find the coordinates of a given point, determine the distance along the x and y axes
