Roots
- Roots are the inverse of powers
- The square root of a number is a value that, when multiplied by itself once, gives the original number
- The square root is shown by the square root symbol
- Square rooting is the inverse operation to squaring
- Taking the square root of a perfect square gives a whole number
- Taking the square root of a non-perfect square gives a decimal
- The cube root of a number is a value that, when multiplied together three times, gives the original number
- The cube root is shown by the cube root symbol
- Cube rooting can be done for negative numbers
- Taking the cube root of a perfect cube gives a whole number
- Taking the cube root of a non-perfect cube gives a decimal
- Larger roots, such as the 4th and 5th root, can also be calculated
- The name of a root is given by the number used in the root symbol
