Rotation
- Rotation is a transformation that rotates a shape around a center point
- Three pieces of information are needed to perform a rotation: the center of rotation, the direction of turn, and the angle of turn
- The center of rotation is the point that doesn't move during the rotation
- The direction of rotation can be clockwise or counterclockwise
- The angle of turn is the amount of rotation, usually in multiples of 90 degrees
- To perform a rotation, mark the center of rotation, identify the direction of rotation, and draw the image of the shape after rotation
- Tracing paper or imagining rectangles from each vertex to the center of rotation can help visualize the rotation
- The ability to carry out rotation transformations and describe transformations is important
