  • Two shapes are similar if one shape is a larger or smaller version of the other
  • Similar shapes can be obtained through enlargement, rotation, translation, or reflection
  • Similar shapes have the same angles and corresponding sides in the same ratio
  • Examples of shapes that are always similar include circles and regular polygons with the same number of sides
  • Squares are similar to each other, but not all rectangles are similar
  • Rhombuses with matching angles are similar, but not all rhombuses are similar even with proportional sides
  • To determine if two shapes are similar, check the ratio of corresponding side lengths and if the angles match
