Types of Number
- Numbers can be grouped into different main types: integers, fractions, and decimals.
- Integers are whole numbers that can be positive, negative, or zero.
- Positive integers are greater than zero and are found to the right of zero on a number line.
- Negative integers are less than zero and are found to the left of zero on a number line.
- Fractions represent a part of a whole number and can be placed on a number line.
- Decimals are another way to express parts of a whole number and can also be placed on a number line.
- Fractions and decimals can be used as different ways of writing the same number.
- It is important to be able to identify and explain whether a number is an integer, a fraction, or a decimal, and whether it is positive or negative.
