  • Some high frequency verbs don’t follow the -ado/-ido pattern.
Infinitive Irregular past participle/gerund
abrir abierto (opened)
decir dicho (said)
escribir escrito (written)
hacer hecho (done/made)
poner puesto (put)
ver visto (seen)
volver vuelto (returned)
morir muerto (died)
romper roto (broken)
cubrir cubierto (covered)
  • Note: prefixes (like des- or re-) apply but aren’t listed separately in the vocabulary list if the base verb is listed. For example, descrito = described (from escrito), resuelto = resolved (from vuelto).
  • Examples with irregular past participles:
    • (Yo) He escrito una carta. (I have written a letter.)
    • ¿(Tu) Has dicho la verdad? (Have you told the truth?)
    • Ella ha abierto la ventana. (She has opened the window.)
    • (Nosotros) Hemos hecho la tarea. (We have done the homework.)
    • (Ellos) Han visto esa película. (They have seen that movie.)
