  • The complexity and delicacy of the brain make investigating and treating brain disorders difficult. Brain surgery is risky and may cause side effects or further damage, and brain-damaged patients may not be able to consent.
  • Neuroscientists have mapped the regions of the brain to particular functions by studying patients with brain damage, using non-invasive techniques, such as electrically stimulating different parts of the brain, and using MRI scanning techniques.
