Magnetic fields

Magnetic fields

  • A magnetic field is the region around a magnet where other magnets or magnetic materials will experience a force.
  • Magnetic fields can be visualised using field lines:
    • The lines all point from a north pole to a south pole. This represents the direction of the force a north pole would experience in the field.
    • The strength of the field is indicated by how close together field lines are. They will be closest near to the poles of the magnet.
    • Field lines should not cross or touch each other.
