  • Practise speaking your answers out loud regularly. You can then record yourself and check for the following: pronunciation, fluency and use of opinions and correct tenses.
  • Aim to show four key skills in every answer: opinions, justifications, tenses, and connectives.
  • For example: En el futuro me gustaría viajar a México porque me encanta la cultura. (In the future I would like to travel to Mexico because I love the culture.)
  • If you forget a word, you can rephrase it or describe it. Examiners look for communication, not perfection. For example if you forgot the word for cinema (cine) you could say el lugar donde la gente ven peliculas (the place where people see the movies). This is much better than staying silent or panicking because you can’t recall a specific word.
  • Memorising certain common structures makes it much easier to formulate your thoughts and ideas more fluently at the exam. You could use structures like:
    • Yo pienso que... (I think that...)
    • Me parece que... (it seems to me that...)
    • Suelo + infinitive (I tend to do something)
    • La razón es que... (the reason is that...)
    • Acabo de + infinitive… (I have just)
    • En mi opinión... (In my opinion)
  • Try to speak slowly and clearly – clarity of speech is more important than rushing to cram in lots of vocabulary.
